Dr HS Gupta, inaugural Director General of BISA, has made significant contribution to the field of agricultural R&D with special reference to crop breeding and biotechnology. Prior to joining BISA, he served for five and a half years as Director of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, known globally as the institution that was instrumental in ushering the ‘Green Revolution’ in India. Dr Gupta played a leading role in release of HD 2967, a wheat variety that occupies more than 8 million ha area and adds 4-5 million tonnes of additional wheat to India’s granary every year. Dr Gupta led development of India's first short duration ‘Quality Protein Maize’ hybrid through marker assisted breeding. His research contributions have been recognized at the national as well as at international levels and he is three time recipient of ICAR's Team Award for Outstanding Multidisciplinary Research. Dr Gupta has been conferred with the Societal Innovation Award of the National Research & Development Corporation and his group's research was selected for WIPO's Gold Medal in the year 2009. Dr Gupta is also the recipient of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Hari Om Ashram Trust, Dr. AS Cheema, Dr Panchanan Maheshwari lecture, Dr Rao Bahadur B. Vishwanath and Shri OP Bhasin awards. Dr Gupta has been conferred D.Sc. (h.c.) by the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut. Dr Gupta is a fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences and has held presidency of the Indian Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding during 2011-13.

Melinda has served as executive vice president since June 2007, and was IAOM’s director of communications from 2004-2007. As executive vice president, she is responsible for implementing board policies, managing the association’s overall operations and staff, as well as IAOM’s in-house publications. Melinda has a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Baker University, Baldwin City, Kansas, and a master’s degree in Russian and East European Studies from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. Since 2010, she has held the Certified Association Executive credential from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). She currently serves as president of the Kansas City Society of Association Executives (KCSAE). Prior to joining IAOM she was communications manager for the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia.

Pawan Agarwal is currently the CEO, Food Safety & Standards Authority of India and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. He is an IAS Officer of 1985 ofrom West Bengal Cadre. He has been the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship in the Govt. of India. Earlier, he was the Adviser, Higher Education and Culture in the Planning Commission (now NITI Aayog). He has also worked as Director in the Ministry of HRD and Financial Advisor, University Grants Commission.
      He has been Fulbright New Century Scholar at Harvard University / Emory University, visiting scholar and fellow at ICRIER, New Delhi and the Centre for the Study of Higher Education and the Australia India Institute in University of Melbourne.
      He has published on a range of higher education issues in India and comparative perspective in the South Asian context. His book ‘Indian Higher Education: Envisioning the Future’ published by Sage in 2009 is an authoritative and well-regarded book on India’s higher education system. Recently, he has edited a book, ‘A Half-Century of Indian Higher Education: Essays by Philip G. Altbach’ published by Sage in 2012.

Atul Chaturvedi is a veteran in the Vegetable Oil/ Oil seeds and Agro Business of the Country. He has more than three decades of successful and varied general and strategic management experience in the field of Manufacturing, Trading and Agri Infrastructure Development. He has been associated with Adani’s since 1998 and has played a key role in the development of the Agro business and Agri Infrastructure of the Group. He is currently CEO and Director of Agro Business in Adani. As CEO he is responsible for Adani Wilmar Ltd., Adani Agri Logistics and Adani Agrifresh Ltd. Each of these Companies are market leaders in their category in India and have done pioneering work. A widely travelled International Trader, he has hands on experience in handling Agro Products, Vegetable Oils, Grains, Oilseeds, Apples, Agri Infrastructure etc. both within and outside India.
      Mr. Chaturvedi has received many awards/recognitions over the years, like Best Analyst award from ZEE, Agri leadership award etc. He was declared as “Globoil Man of the Year-2013” for his contribution to Vegetable Oil Industry.
      Mr. Chaturvedi is associated with various Organisations and Trade Bodies. He was Dy. Chairman of Soya Oilseed Processors Association (SOPA). Currently he is Vice President of Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA) a leading trade body of Vegetable Oil Industry. He is a Director of International Castor Oil Association (ICOA) based in New York. He is also associated with CII and heads the Task Force on Edible Oil and Oilseeds.
      Mr. Chaturvedi writes a regular Blog for Economic Times on Agriculture which is widely read. An eminent Speaker his views are widely respected by Trade and Industry.

DVR Rajiv Mohan is Vice President - Commodities, ITC Limited - Agri Business Division. A graduate in Commerce and a PG in Marketing Management, he joined the company in 1988, in the Leaf Tobacco business (ABD - ILTD), wherein he was involved in various facets of Operations, Exports and Supply Chain. He was selected as the 'Best Regional Young Manager' in the National Competition for Young Managers conducted by AIMA in 1990.
      He was instrumental in significantly enhancing the global presence of ABD - ILTD through an aggressive market expansion and customer acquisition strategy for Leaf Tobacco. This led to a significant increase in export turnover and a footprint in all continents covering major international customers. He was also vested with the responsibility of building the Supply Chain vertical for the Leaf Tobacco business.
      He was instrumental in developing the Spices Business with a specific focus on evolving a customized supply chain and differentiated products and services, resulting in rapid scale up of the business in domestic and export markets.
      At present, he leads the Commodities portfolio of the Agri Business Division comprising multiple commodities like wheat, soya, coffee, maize, barley, fruit-pulp and marine products, with a focus on supply chain and business development.
Dr Lutz Popper

Lutz Popper read food technology at the Berlin University of Technology, followed by research and instruction activities at the Institute of Food Technology. In his Ph.D. thesis he treated the extraction and application of anti-microbial enzymes. Since December 1993 Popper is with Muehlenchemie, as head of research and development, and since 2009 also as scientific director of the Stern-Wywiol Group. He is an external lecturer for food technology at the Kiel University of Technology since 1997 and has contributed 160 articles and lectures to the field of food science.

Sunil Maheshwari has been in the milling industry for over 30 years. He joined Siemer Milling Company in 2002; he is part of the Leadership Group, serving as Vice President of Siemer Specialty Ingredients and Plant Manager of Whitewater Mill in West Harrison, Indiana. Sunil was fascinated the first time he visited his uncle’s mill near Mumbai in India, and he decided to become a miller. Sunil received his Milling diploma and worked for a consulting company in New Delhi, India. He engaged in installation and commission/startup of new mills. In 1993 he moved to Kenya, where he oversaw operations for a milling group with national scope. In 1998 he moved to Manitoba, Canada where he started the first lights-out mill for Prairie Flour Mills in Elie, near Winnipeg. Sunil has been a member of IAOM since 2002, and has served on the IAOM Education Committee and Global Strategies Committee since 2010 and 2011, respectively.

With more than 16 years of experience, he has carved out his place as trader for wide spectrum of commodities covering Grains, Oilseeds and Pulses. He has been involved in trade flows ranging from exports to imports as well as domestic trade flows. He has been closely working with Indian Flour Milling industry, Indian Starch Industry, Indian Poultry Industry and Indian Crush industry for various initiatives including securing the long term supplies of raw materials. He has earlier worked with MNCs like Cargill as Trader and Olam International as General Manager. He has attended High Level Leadership Programmes affiliated to Geneva and is an MBA.
Suresh Sakhare

Working as scientist at Flour Milling, Baking and Confectionery Technology, CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, since 2006. Faculty at International School of Milling Technology, CSIR-CFTRI and to imparts training to national and international participants. Worked as a Miller for various flour mills and handled plants independently for a period of four years (2002-2006) with milling capacities upto 300 tonnes/ day in states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The research interest area is Wheat Milling Technology, Flour Fortification, Grain Fractionation, Wheat Dough Rheology, Development of Speciality Flours, Bakery and Traditional Wheat Based Products.
      Trained baker at Modern Food Industries, Bangalore and attended workshop on Expert Milling at M/s. Buhler Ltd., Uzwil Switzerland. Worked as a Project Leader and Co-PI on eight Industrial consultancy projects. Published more than 25 research papers in national and international journals and 26 papers presented in symposia / conferences. Developed various technologies on flour fortification and milling, which are transferred to the 21 Indian Food Industries in various part of the country.

Mr. Somnath Chatterjee has over 23 years of rich experience in handling key positions at food industry / FMCG giants like Nestle. He specializes in commodities procurement and strategic planning with focus on implementing cost reduction measures. He has vast experience in logistics, warehouse management, distribution, transportation, production planning and inventory management.
      Somnath has done his post-graduation in humanities with specialization in tea and coffee tasting from J. Thomas & Co, Kolkata and Thompson Lloyd & Ewart of London. He has undergone various management courses on: Procurement psychology, Price Risk Mitigation, Internal controls, Process Management & lean management. He is a member of Bangalore Chamber of Industry & Commerce and part of expert committee on Agro & Food Processing.

Dr S. C. Khurana is M.Sc,Ph.D in Chemistry and also holds Diploma in Management. He has more than 35 years of experience in framing of standards and certification of agricultural commodities and processed products. He had been representing in various Sub Committees of Central Committee for Food Standards constituted under PFA Act,1954 and also in various Sectional Committees of Food and Agriculture Division of Bureau of Indian Standards. He is a certified ISO 9000, HACCP and ISO 22000 Auditor and Evaluation Committee Member for evaluation of Certification Bodies under National Programme for Organic Production of APEDA.
      He has participated and made presentations in various national and international Workshops/Seminars relating to Standardization and Certification, Food Safety, WTO Agreements etc. He has represented the country in various Sessions of Codex Committees relating to Fruits and Vegetables, Food Hygiene etc.
      At present, he is Consultant with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and is coordinating the Scientific Panels constituted for the framing of standards of Oils and Fats, Fruits and Vegetable products, Cereals and their products, residues of pesticides and antibiotics etc. under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Ratan Sharma

A brief back ground: Dr. Ratan Sharma is a Ph. D in soy food technology from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, India. Also, he did specialized soy food courses and advanced training on soy processing and utilization from University of Illinois, Texas A&M and Kansas State University in USA and Prosoya Inc, Canada. Dr. Sharma is an international soy food expert. He has the credit for transferring and establishing the soy milk processing machine (SoyaCow) technology from Canada to India. Dr. Sharma has traveled extensively to Canada, USA, Netherlands, South Africa, Egypt, Singapore, Uganda, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Jordan, Thailand, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, UAE etc. to help the soy food program in these countries. Dr. Sharma is having more than 22 years’ experience in the field of soy based food production and commercialization on cottage, medium and large scale and has established and helped more than 1,000 soy food entrepreneurs in India and many other countries.
      The contribution of Dr. Sharma for the soy food industry in India has been very well recognized and documented in the book “History of Soybeans and Soy Foods in South Asia/Indian Subcontinent (1956-2010) by William Shurtleff. Dr. Sharma is one of the founder members of the Soy Food Promotion and Welfare Association (SFPWA) of India.
      Soy Products Expertise: Soymilk, Tofu, Soy Flour, Soy Flour Fortification, TSP, Soy Protein Isolates and Concentrates, Soy Nuts, Soy Crushing for the Food Grade production etc. Besides these Dr. Sharma has the expertise to formulate the soy based low cost formulations/recipes for the human feeding programs and for the general consumption in India and other geographies. He represented USSEC as speaker and panelist in various National/international conferences and committees organized by the government of India and other Indian industry forums.
      For his outstanding contribution to promote the soy food concept and establishing a large number of soy food industries in India Dr. Sharma received an award by the Soy Food Promotion and Welfare Association (SFPWA) in an International Soy Food Conference in India in November 2014.
Presently Dr. Ratan Sharma is working for the United States Soybean Export Council (USSEC) as a Director – Soy Food Program for India and the Asian Subcontinent.
Subrata Kr. Dutta
The India Representative of Food Fortification Initiative (FFI)
Dr. Subrata Dutta is the India Representative of Food Fortification Initiative (FFI), a global partnership-body of United Nations, international development agencies and food industries established under CDC, Atlanta. FFI works in Asia, Africa and Europe to support fortification of industrially milled cereal grains by collaborating with multi-sector partners. He has spearheaded many initiatives with state governments that helped to develop food fortification policies and programmes in many states of India with an aim to eliminate vitamins and minerals deficiency related hunger and malnutrition.
      He is an active regional network member of the initiative-Strengthening New-born Health and Prevention of Birth Defects-started with support from WHO regional office and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He is Advisory Board Member for many reputed organisations and institutions. He is currently Area Advisory Board Member of Amity University and various other development agencies and member of many technical/expert groups constituted by the State Governments and international organisations.
      He conducted extensive research on various subjects and was one of the reviewers of the “Asian Wheat Products”, a research paper which assessed and examined the fortified wheat flour products based on the WHO recommendations. An expert of right to food, he had substantially contributed to the periodic reports: The right to Adequate Food in India produced by FIAN INTERNATIONAL submitted to the 40th session of UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. He was also a part of the national consultation team which prepared: A Report on The Status of Young Child in India. He supervised many research projects on wheat and rice supply chain assessments in India as part of FFI/State Government’s initiatives.
Ms. Madhavi Das

Ms. Madhavi Das, Joint Secretary Government of India, is currently Chief Management Services Officer at the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. A 1991 batch officer of the Indian P&T Finance and Accounts Service, she has diverse work experience in the Ministry of Telecommunications, Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Finance, Government of India. In her career spanning two and a half decades in the Civil Services, she has been deeply involved in formulation and implementation of large flagship schemes of the government. As Executive Director in the Pension Fund Regulatory Authority of India, she has been instrumental in the scripting and implementation of of several financial sector regulations. She has also worked as Secretary General of the Apparel Export Promotion Council.
      Ms. Das has earned a Masters degree in Economics, a Masters in Public Policy and Sustainable Development and a PGDM. She has received awards for academic excellence.
